Gauhati University is the first university of North east India located at Jalukbari in Guwahati.
Gauhati University has four star university rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. It has 183 affiliated colleges.
The university also embraces the Institute of Distance and Open Learning and Department of Business Administration besides various research centers such as Women's Study, NE Historical Studies, Aqua Culture, Population Research, Folklore Research.
