Kathua District is bounded by Punjab in the south east, Himachal Pradesh in the north east side, Doda and Udhampur in North and North West, Jammu in the West and Pakistan's working boundary in the south west side.
Kathua district is divided into 8 blocks Bani, Barnoti, Basholi, Billawar, Duggan, Ghagwal, Hiranagar, Kathua and Lohai Malhar.
The traditional language of Kathua is Dogri. Basohli town in Kathua district is famous for its paintings (Basohli Painting).
