The UGC or University Grants Commission was formally established only in November 1956 as a statutory body of the Government of India through an Act of Parliament for the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in India.
The UGC has six regional centres at Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bhopal, Guwahati and Bangalore.
UGC website has sections like organization, directory, regional offices, inter university centers, national facilities, UGC Act, Financials, publications, photo gallery, tenth plan document, major research projects etc.
