Ambala is known for glass industries and for producing microscopes, and other instruments used in chemistry laboratories. It also produces rugs, known locally as Durries.
Ambala district consists of 3 tehsils viz., Ambala, Jagadhri and Naraingarh.
Ambala is bounded by the Yamuna Nagar district in the South-East, Kurukshetra District in the South, Patiala and Ropar districts of Punjab in the west and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Shivalik Range of Solan and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh bound the Ambala district in the North and North-East.
