Kurukshetra is a very ancient town which is mentioned in the Mahabharata, where Lord Krishna delivered the Divine Message to Arjuna, known as Bhagavat Gita. Jyotisar, near Thanesar, is supposed to mark the site where it was delivered.
The other important towns of the district are Pehowa, Shahbad and Ladwa. Kurukshetra besides being a seat of learning and knowledge for Hundus has also been a place of great interest for Sikhs.
