Prafulla Kar was a renowned poet and literary figure from Odisha, a state located in eastern India. He was born on November 4, 1936, in the village of Biridi in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district. Kar is considered one of the most prominent modern Odia poets and played a key role in shaping the state's contemporary literary landscape.
Kar began his career as a school teacher but soon devoted himself to writing poetry. His poetry is known for its simplicity, emotional depth, and philosophical insights. He wrote on a range of themes, including love, nature, and spirituality, and his work has been translated into several Indian and foreign languages.
Some of Kar's notable works include "Akash Anile", "Sabda Samarpana", and "Sthaii". He was the recipient of several awards for his contributions to Odia literature, including the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1972, the Padma Shri in 2004, and the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2008.
