Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park is a popular wildlife reserve located in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, India. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1958 and was later elevated to the status of a national park in 1979. The park covers an area of around 866 square kilometers and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna.

History:
Sariska was once the hunting ground of the royal family of Alwar, and it was converted into a wildlife sanctuary in 1958. However, due to rampant poaching and loss of habitat, the wildlife population in the park had declined significantly by the 1980s. To address this issue, the Indian government launched a conservation program and relocated several tigers to the park. Today, Sariska is known for its tiger population, which is estimated to be around 16-18.

Profile:
Sariska National Park is situated in the Aravalli Range and is characterized by hilly terrain, dense forests, and grasslands. The park is home to several species of animals, including tigers, leopards, wild dogs, jungle cats, hyenas, and various species of deer. It is also home to several species of birds, including peafowl, grey partridge, bush quail, sand grouse, and crested serpent eagle.

The park offers a range of activities for visitors, including safaris, nature walks, and bird watching tours. The best time to visit the park is from October to June when the weather is pleasant, and the animals are more active. The park is closed during the monsoon season from July to September.

In addition to wildlife, the park is also known for its historical and cultural significance. The ancient Kankwadi Fort and the 10th-century Shiva Temple are located within the park and are popular tourist attractions.

Overall, Sariska National Park is a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers and offers a unique opportunity to witness the beauty and diversity of Rajasthan's natural heritage.
